The Size of Audiophile headphones after $500 is a joke!

Look I can't help it. I truly can't folks. Every time I look up at more expensive headphone that people claim truly make a difference( even though I think their definition of difference is different from mine) I can't help but see the image of Doc Brown on Back to Future. The overall size of the headphones are growing and growing...not getting smaller. I get that Audiophile headphones aren't truly meant to carry about and or go outside with. I get this but I still would like reasonable footprints of units that I put on my head. I don't at all find it even mildly tempting to blowing $1000's on a headphone that makes me look like a science experiment gone wrong.

Even headphones that are at the $600 range are huge and unyielding upon one's head. I get people really believe in the size structure of headphones to mean that there is serious hardware inside them. But I'm sorry, if smaller footprint headphones can compete with them like in the case with the Sundara vs Ananda ...then why is there such a vast difference in size for such a small difference between them in sound? And Sure I understand with more power comes bigger driver units but it's 2022 almost. You can't tell me that we haven't learned how to make smaller tech count for power and efficiency.

Sooner or later I've got to believe with such little difference in the Law of Diminishing Returns of things over $500, that we can't find a better middle ground for a another tier that kinda cuts off the extreme physical giant looking headphones. But I will at least say that most people that have these headphone at least say they are comfortable for the most part. Although I'm sure its still something that could be made to be more comfortable if it was lighter and smaller. And don't get me wrong I'm not looking for miniature levels headphones. Things like the Sundara should be good or the Sennheiser line ups are the limits for me and I don't have a small head. But overall you don't hear a lot of people complaining about this so I know I'm a minority here, but I still wish I had better options for headphones that exceed the $500 line of quality without accepting two bass drums tied to my head:)
