Meet the EDC KILLER! The SAGE 5!

Another day ...another knife! Am I'm done? Probably not:). It's the new jam for me right now. And I blame Amazon's overnight free Prime delivery for all of this. It's so tempting to see that "Buy it now" button (next-day delivery flashing) attached to a product people are talking about. Having the ability to return it, also helps as well. I know I said I believed I found my knife with the Para 3 lightweight but the action on the knife wasn't getting better as I thought. The De-Tent was too strong on the knife for opening and the release of the compression lock didn't always allow the blade to fall as it kept hanging up on the bar. It was really starting to annoy me. And it was right at this time that I saw videos about the Sage 5. Multiple people calling this the 940 for Spyderco.Others, the Para 3 and Delica 4 killer. And even worst, the title "The best Syperco knife ever made". Everyone kept going on and on over the action of this knife being so different and better than anything ever done with Spyderco but yet all it was a compression lock. So I just didn't understand or believe it and when this happens...I have to get it. I had to prove to myself that I was right or wrong especially after deciding to return the Para 3 due to its de-tent and or issue with the locking blade structure.

And so as with all honeymoon stages, as long as it's not a piece of crap that is, I really fail for the knife's looks and feel. That was not a surprise to me. I knew that that knife weighed more than the para 3 because it had liners throughout the handle. This made that hollow feeling I got with the Para 3 a thing of the past. It gave the knife just enough weight to still be lightweight and still not cheap feeling. The density was nice and balanced and yet strong. I also expected better grips thanks to the multi-directional Volcano grip scales and I got them. But the one thing I didn't believe or expect was some kind of miracle in the movement that would define this knife as the best Spyderco knife ever made. Buttttt, once again I was wrong because that's exactly what this knife gave me. I don't know if this has something to do with the blade, the de-tent tension, or something in the bushings and washers. All I can tell you is that this knife closes and opens better than any other knife I've ever felt from Spyderco. The feel in your hands is just really done nice and helpful. Every inch of this knife is so well crafted with fine details mastered unlike anything other Spyderco I have had prior. Now granted...all my other Spydercos were made in the USA. This is my first Spyderco Knife from Taiwan. So maybe it's the attention to detail in Taiwan that really helped nailed the aesthetics (smoothness, design, and perfect lock up and centering)of this knife so well or something, I frankly don't know for sure. All I can tell you is that there is a clear and present difference in this knife over all other Spyderco knives I've tried in my life and this difference stands out clearly when you use this knife. So if this is a killer of knives what better name than "Deathstroke". Is this the EDC King over all other knives? I won't say this yet but what I will confirm is that is the best feeling Spyderco I have ever had, so far. Hopefully, this won't wear in and just become another Compression lock. So I will need more time with it before we give it a clear score.
