Look, I know there are camps of people that have this debate. I've having it with myself right now. As of right now before I test out any other IEM'S yet...the Kato's by Moondrop might be the best thing I have heard for instruments of music. I've been on these things for the last 4 days and running. These things aren't even finished burning in and I have yet to create the levels these things show in music and or in videos with any other thing I own. But the saddest thing is that this includes My 660s and 789 balance setup.
This made no sense to me. How can something so small out preform this amount of power and hardware? And the shameful thing is that if I played them though this same amp it would really destroy my headphones. But I don't even need them plugged into a amp and yet they still beat my 660s on XLR balance port of one of the best amps out, while the Katos are just merely plugged into my Samsung fold with a Dongle USB C Dac.
Look you can believe or not, I don't control your mind or belief. All I can truly do is tell you what I hear from my prospective and ultimately it's up to you to decide the rest for yourself. But honestly, I wouldn't believe anyone that told me this too. Logically, it makes not sense but it's the truth. The Kato's have more bass even sub- bass, clearer delivery of treble and mids and larger soundstage, separation and better imaging. It's really a domination if you compare them to each other. I even find myself using my IEM before I use my headphones in every moment I want to listen music. I just get better details from every point with the IEM'S. And to top that is the prices. I got a $500 system at my desk compared to a $190 IEM and dongle. So now that brings back the problem of differences in balance vs non balance as well. How can none balance usb c connected IEM beat a balance XLR?? Some people don't feel this matters, others do. I myself hear a differnce between 3.5 ports vs XLR in clarity, resolution but maybe that's because of the volume being louder due to more power and perhaps volume is a trick. So where do I go with this? And if the Kato at $180 is this good..what happens on a $500 IEM? And if a $500 actually gets even moderately better...where does this put my 660s..which still can be returned and what do I do with my Kato's. Do I simply start collecting IEMs like some people do? Nope...nope...I know I can't do that. Something tells me that IEM have got to be like headphones. Small differences not enough to justify prices. But I will find out tomorrow for sure.
