Stop me if you have heard this before...:)! Such is life, I swear. I know I just to told you about all the other knives prior and every single one of them could be the only thing you or I can ever need, especially the Sage 5 or the 940-2. But something happened to me with this knife. Basically, it gave me back something I was missing and never got fully with the only knife I have EDC'd a complete year with... the Manix 2. The Manix 2 was the only knife good enough to hold my loyalty for a complete year of testing. Why? Because it was a knife that I knew wouldn't let me down in the forest, cooking, cutting boxes, or defending my life if needed. Its only flaw was the weight and width of the overall build. I like heavier knives if they are solid and have a great balance of density. But what ultimately hurt me with the Manix 2 was the overall width of the knife closed and open. The blade was just too wide... open, or closed. This Mini Adamas fixed all of this and brought back the love and feel of a blade I could trust for anything.
No matter what I need this knife has me. Things like the 940-2 with its skinny blade and even the Sage 5 lightweight could only hold me to a point. They just wouldn't be something I knew I could trust for every single thing in whatever environment I put it in. The Sage 5 has almost a perfect design if it was not so thin in width and a lot of knives follow this same design. The Mini Adamas was one of the first ones to have a design that delivered on the more rounded full-width handle feel of a fixed blade in a pocket knife without being too big like its bigger brother the Adamas.
If I'm going with a knife would I feel more secure about Benchmade's warranty or Spyderco's? And for me, I've known the answer to be Benchmade but wasn't willing to compromise that against the cutting issues most have compared to the Spyderco. And ultimately Benchmade's "Yours for life" really stuck to my soul.
But this knife's Cruwear steel is perfect for me. It's easy to sharpen( even easier than s30v) which makes the sharpness so welcoming and holds an edge very well. Basically, it is my new favorite steel for knives! And when you add that amazing opening and closing on this blade you get something pretty special. This thing opens better and smoother than anything I have ever had and the blade's weight and design probably help deliver that feeling. It's like it has an extra level of jelly and butter placed on a piece of ice. Even better than the Sage 5 which I didn't think was possible. This honestly is the first knife I can honestly think about when it comes down to passing something down to my son and that says a lot. And funny enough, it's the first knife that I don't feel like I want a Fob or lanyard on. It's like a perfect knife that nothing can be added to or subtracted from.
